Just an FYI - Amazon is having an end of the year blowout on some DVDs. Several seasons of the following shows can be had for around $20 (or less) per season:
Supernatural
Veronica Mars
One Tree Hill
Gossip Girl
Gilmore Girls
The OC
ER
Oz
Sex & the City
Thought I'd share since I know I have fans of several of those shows on my flist.
In updates not related to cheap stuff, I haven't given up on the 30 days of sharing meme, I'm just electing to share the rest of the days AFTER I finish my Christmas prep. In other words, after Christmas.
I'm also trying to do the iTunes fic meme that's going around, but all you folks who are still waiting for me to complete drabbles from last year know how my independent writing has been going. We'll see.
Last night I made scones for my coworkers for Christmas. They were pleased. I made apple cinnamon, lemon, and pumpkin. It was the first time I've made pumpkin and I haven't tried one yet. They look good, though. The lemon turned out FANTASTIC. OMG YUM. That made me very happy because the first time I made them I added too much flour and they were really dry. The apple cinnamon ones always come out well, so I'm not worried about them. Seirously, though, the lemon scones will be nommed in short order. Nom nom nom.
Bed time!

Yesterday I had a really nice surprise. I had been neglecting my dishes for some time. It was bad. Two nights ago I ate ice cream from a tupperware container using a serving spoon. Yeah. So last night was the night I was going to have to suck it up and get them done because I had to make something for today's holiday pot luck at work. I needed dishes and counter space. I was not looking forward to the enormous task.
Then I got home and found that Meredith had come over during the day and done most of my dishes for me. Just because. I nearly cried. Sometimes my kid is awesome.
Also yesterday, I received the annual Christmas check from my dad. Otherwise known as 'how Kate pays for gifts for everyone else'. I was grateful and relieved to have it arrive. I would prefer to have my dad show some kind of interest in my life, but in lieu of that cash is the next best option.
It's like my car knows I suddenly have money. After a very full and productive day at work, I was pleased to be driving home at last. About 4 miles from home, I realize my tire's gone flat. I'm not terribly observant, so it took me awhile. That baby was smoking. I'm really hoping I didn't bend the rim, but I'm not going to place any bets on it.
To make matters worse, I'm not only unobservant, I'm also a total girl about these things. I've never changed a tire in my life. In my mind, that's what men are for. In my defense, I can do my own taxes. I'm not inept at everything.
Anyway, back to the story. I don't know how to change a tire beyond the general theory. Unfortunately, I also inadvertently left my phone at home yesterday, so I couldn't call anyone to help me. I dig in the trunk (and I mean dig, there's a ton of crap in my trunk) and get out the spare and the jack. I bought my car used and there's no manual in my glove box, so I sat in the car where it was still relatively warm and tried to puzzle out my jack. Pathetic, I know. Anyway, it was cold and dark and I was kind of freaking out. I didn't have anything to help loosen the lug nuts and I didn't have directions, so I decided to try to flag someone down.
No one stopped. I stood on the side of the road for around 30 minutes before finally a police officer happened by and helped me out. Tomorrow I need to go get a new tire. Probably two, so they'll be evenly worn. If my rim is bent, Christmas won't be very jolly this year.
Now I'm going to bed.

Today's share - an art piece.
This is my favorite Monet. I have a print of it still waiting to be framed.

Today's share: a song that makes me cry (or nearly)
I'm a sappy, sentimental type, so this song makes me wibbly. I've posted it before.
I also love Jim Brickman, and the piano in general.

Harry Potter Personality Quiz by Pirate Monkeys Inc.
Also, just because it's been on my mind and making me giggle, a Mitch Hedberg bit:
"I want to drive a forklift in a cutlery factory. It's just so literal."
Today's share, a fanfic. I give you one of my all time favorites, Misunderstandings by LadyRhiyana.
I flaked out yesterday and didn't do this, so today we have two.
For the 13th share, a book of fiction.

Fantastic Mr. Fox was one of my favorite books as a kid. I was a big fan of Roald Dahl in general, but I loved this story. I really want to go see the movie that's out, but time is not on my side.

I read this book in 9th grade, borrowed it from my brother's girlfriend. I was fascinated reading Claude Brown's tale of growing up in Harlem in the 40s and 50s. It was probably the first time I realized just how privileged my life was.

Today I'm sharing something that tickles my fancy.
So, after asking people to do the writer's meme, I realized that I had anonymous commenting disabled. D'oh!
It's fixed now. Tear me to pieces! Or just say really nice things. Whatever you like.

Take a sad Kate and make it better.
FX put this ad in all the trade magazines. Sons of Anarchy is TEH AWESOME. Watch it for the gripping story and fantastic writing. Watch it because Charlie Hunnam is effing yummy. Hell, watch it so you can see Katey Sagal and say, "Who knew Peg Bundy had dramatic chops like that?"
It's a great show.

It's a great show.

Today I share a picture of me taken more than 10 years ago. >.> Okie doke. Technically, I could repost one of the 'pictures that make me happy' because they're both way more than 10 years old, but I'll pick something new. I'd hate to be repetitive.
( I feel like doing a few because I'm vain like that. )
I went to see New Moon tonight with Tracey and Sheridan. We had a good time, and I was pleased at how faithful the movie was to the book. Sheridan is a bonafied Twilight-aholic.
